ViVerita therapeutics is a next generation precision oncology company. Built on an industry-leading in vivo discovery platform, the company is uniquely positioned to unveil a big wave of physiologically relevant novel targets and deliver the next generation of precision therapies to treat various types of cancers.
ViVerita Therapeutics is headquartered in Boston, USA, where we will focus on drug discovery and development. ViVerita Discovery FlexCo is its wholly-owned subsidiary in Vienna, Austria. This international set up between North America and Europe allows us to enjoy the benefits of both continents with regard to talent, capital, and infrastructure.
Company Structure

Our goal is to create novel precision medicines to save the lives of many cancer patients. We pursue this goal by advancing our wholly-owned target identification and drug discovery/development programs. It is worth mentioning that each of our lead programs has the potential to help a large patient population.

Dr. Xuewen Pan
Xuewen Pan is the President and Chief Executive Officer of ViVerita Therapeutics since its inception in 2023. He is a veteran in drug discovery, a proven technical innovator, and an expert in Functional Genomics and Chemical Biology. He is a person with unique insights, often seeing things that others do not see. He is an exceptional team builder, team leader and collaborator. Prior to founding ViVerita, Xuewen was a Senior Director at Tango Therapeutics from 2017 to 2022, serving as the chief architect of the company’s Functional Genomics platform and a Senior Investigator at Novartis from 2013 to 2017. Before joining the pharmaceutical industry, Xuewen was a tenure-tracked Assistant Professor at the Baylor College of Medicine developing cutting-edge Functional Genomics technologies to study small molecule mechanisms of action. He obtained his PhD from Duke University and conducted Postdoctoral research at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.

Dr. Ulrich Elling
Ulrich Elling is the CTO of ViVerita Therapeutics and serves as the Managing Director of ViVerita Discovery, the company’s Austrian subsidiary. He is a leader in the development of Functional Genomic tools in mammalian systems. Among others, he made several inventions in the CRISPR screening space, including CRISPR-UMI, VBC-Score gRNA design, and CRISPR-StAR, a new technology that transforms genetic screening with in vivo and other challenging models. Before joining ViVerita, Ulrich was a Group Leader at the Institute of Molecular Biology (IMBA) of the Austrian Academy of Sciences from 2014 to 2024. He also performed the national SARS-CoV-2 genomic surveillance for Austria and served in various advisory roles for the government and WHO and in public outreach during the pandemic. He received his PhD from the Univ. of Regensburg for his work performed at the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) in Heidelberg and conducted Postdoctoral studies at IMBA.

Dr. Daniel Schramek
Daniel Schramek is an SAB member of ViVerita Therapeutics. He is also a Senior Investigator and the Deputy Director at the Lunenfeld-Tanenbaum Research Institute/Mount Sinai Hospital in Toronto, and an Associate Professor at the Department of Molecular Genetics, Temerty Faculty of Medicine, University of Toronto. He holds the inaugural Tony Pawson Sinai 100 Chair and the Canadian Research Chair in Functional Cancer Genomics. Daniel is an undisputed leader in this field. He pioneered genetic screening in diverse genetically engineered mouse models (GEMM) of Breast, Lung, Brain, Head & Neck, and Pancreatic cancers with the goal of elucidating novel genetic drivers as well as identifying genotype-specific vulnerabilities and novel drug targets to treat these fatal cancers. He received his PhD in 2010 from the University of Vienna, Austria and pursued his postdoctoral research at the Rockefeller University in New York, USA.
